Animal Welfare of the Albemarle Region Every day! (AWARE) is a private 501(c)3 non-profit organization devoted to improving the lives of animals in Perquimans, Chowan, Gates, Bertie, and Washington counties in North Carolina.
Your donations are tax deductible and 100% of our income goes to helping animals.
Our Goals:
Sponsor low-cost spay/neuter clinics
Provide spay/neuter vouchers to area residents
Reduce the euthanasia rate at the Tri-County Animal Shelter
Promote humane principles and educate the public on responsible pet ownership
North Carolina's euthanasia rate of adoptable animals is TWICE that of any other state in the country. In 2012 an average of 28 cats and dogs a week were euthanized at the Tri-County Animal Shelter alone. Because adoption is not the complete answer, AWARE is working hard to increase the spay-neuter rate in our area to address the heart of the problem. Between February 2010 and February 2013 AWARE has contributed to the spay/neuter of 665 cats and 158 dogs.
AWARE depends entirely on donations, grants, fundraisers, bequests, and membership dues.
We are not affiliated with any other humane organization.
